The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra 2017 season - MEDIA RELEASE
Artistic Director Paul Dyer says "Over three years of planning, negotiating, crossing fingers and toes has resulted in one of the most magnificent seasons we have produced yet at the Brandenburg. We've got it all: old friends return, new friends join us, and I get to tick something off the bucket list when I conduct Handel's Messiah for the very first time. I can't wait to share this very special season with you!"
- After our recent Helpmann Award, Circa joins us again
For the very first time the Brandenburg performs Handel's Messiah — with a surprise twist
- Drama, obsession, addiction and a sense of humour in two operas
- International guest artists from Holland (Bert Aerbydt) and Russia (Dmitry Sinkovsky)
No year is complete without crowd favourite Noël! Noël!
HANDEL'S MESSIAH - February/March
Much-loved, often performed — one of the most famous pieces of music ever written — Handel's Messiah.
Brace yourself for our first ever performance of Messiah, a heavenly synthesis of the Brandenburg Choir, Orchestra, and shining young vocal soloists.
BAROQUE JOINS THE CIRCUS - May
Internationally acclaimed Circa returns to the Brandenburg stage after our sell-out tour in 2015 and our recent Helpmann Award. This time the Brandenburg's ARIA Award-winning Tapas will form the basis of an experience that will leave you on the edge of your seat!
DMITRY SINKOVSKY: THE SINGING VIOLIN - July/August
Russian-born Dmitry comes from an almost forgotten baroque tradition: a dazzling and energetic violin virtuoso, he is also a countertenor who lets his hair down to sing. Returning to the Brandenburg stage in 2017, Dmitry is the music and the music is him — unafraid, uninterrupted, flawless.
HAYDN, MOZART & FRIENDS - September
A celebration of music and friendship across time. Australia's leading baroque cellist, the Brandenburg's own Jamie Hey, and Belgian period horn specialist Bart Aerbydt, put their signature style on some glorious classics.
BITTERSWEET OBSESSIONS: MONTEVERDI & BACH, TWO OPERAS - October/November
Love, desire, humour, obsession, lust. These two operas by Monteverdi and Bach have it all! Come with the Brandenburg on an exploration of the themes that still define us.
NOËL! NOËL! A CHRISTMAS TRADITION - December
A Brandenburg tradition and one of the most popular series in the calendar, Noël! Noël! is full of all the surprise and wonder of Christmas, combined with the sentiments of the season. Stay tuned for Paul's surprise twist!
