Baroque brilliance, the acrobats of Circa and a singing Russian violin virtuoso: Australian Brandenburg Orchestra announces a bold Brisbane concert series for 2017. Tickets on sale now.

The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra has announced it will perform two thrilling concerts from its magnificent 2017 season in Brisbane next year – Baroque Joins the Circus on 16 May and Dmitry Sinkovsky on 8 August.

Brisbane audiences should prepare to sit on the edge of their seats for Baroque Joins the Circus, a collaboration that brings together the brilliant minds of the Brandenburg’s Artistic Director Paul Dyer and Brisbane-based Circa Contemporary Circus Artistic Director Yaron Lifschitz.

This is the second time internationally acclaimed Circa joins the Brandenburg on stage. French Baroque was a sell-out tour in Melbourne and Sydney in 2015, and recently won a Helpmann Award for Best Chamber and/or Instrumental Ensemble Concert.

This time the Brandenburg and Circa are also coming to Brisbane, and the Brandenburg’s ARIA Award-winning Tapas album will form the basis of a bold and sensual experience not to be missed.

Paul Dyer is bubbling with excitement about this new collaboration. “This will be the first time the Brandenburg will be with Circa in Brisbane, Circa’s hometown, which is very exciting,” Mr Dyer said.

“For our latest collaboration with Circa’s Yaron Lifschitz, we have the opportunity to bring the artists of the air together with the music of the 17th century Italian and Spanish composers. Baroque Joins the Circus will be bold, it will be sensual.”

Yaron Lifschitz is looking forward to performing with the Brandenburg in front of a Brisbane audience.

“Circus bodies can lift and slam, and fly through the air. I want to make something between a bullring and capoeira, where improvisation, music and bodies get melded into something that’s muscular and thrilling.”

“It’s very special to be playing with a major Australian orchestra, here in our hometown. That’s a dream.”

In August, baroque fans old and new can expect to be blown away by international star Dmitry Sinkovsky.

Russian-born Dmitry comes from an almost forgotten baroque tradition: a dazzling and energetic violin virtuoso, he is also a countertenor who lets his hair down to sing.

Returning to the Brandenburg stage in 2017 after dazzling Sydney and Melbourne audiences in 2014, this will be Dmitry’s first time performing in Brisbane.

“Dmitry is the music and the music is him — unafraid, uninterrupted, flawless,” says Mr Dyer.

“2017 will be our third year in a row performing in this beautiful city, and I can’t wait to share these two extraordinary concerts with Brisbane audiences.”
